At our core, we believe that literature is the mirror of a society's soul. Rooted in the rich linguistic tradition of Malayalam, our platform brings together classic perspectives and contemporary narratives. Through curated interviews, critical essays, and storytelling, we bridge the past and the future—offering a space where writers, thinkers, and cultural enthusiasts can meet, reflect, and share.
At Akam, we believe true literature exists to illuminate the human condition. Our editorial mission is centered on depth over brevity, nuance over noise, and authenticity over trends.
We curate works that honor Kerala's rich literary lineage—from classic poetry and regional dialects to contemporary prose and critical commentary. By providing an unhurried space for essayists, poets, and thinkers, we aim to nourish the intellectual and cultural life of the Malayalam-speaking world across generations.

Akam is proud to be an initiative of Kairali Books, established in 2004 with the vision of bringing "A Vadakkan Peruma" to the publishing world. Founded under the chairmanship of renowned film actor Sreenivasan and current Chairman & Managing Director O. Ashok Kumar, Kairali Books has grown into a cornerstone of Malayalam literature, boasting a catalog of over 1,600 titles across diverse genres.
First launched in 2010 as a acclaimed cultural print journal under the editorship of celebrated author C.V. Balakrishnan, Akam captured wide readership across Kerala. Today, Kairali Books continues to expand its global footprint—participating actively in international literary platforms like the Sharjah International Book Fair and hosting the annual Kairali International Cultural Festival (KICF) to celebrate the heritage, art, and tourism of North Malabar.
